Getting Movies onto your iPod

Here's how I have been putting my movies on my iPod for free. I have not upgraded or purchased any software. The two programs I am using are free online.

I've been ripping my movies with Handbrake and then converting them to iPod format with iSquint. Sorry but this process works on a Mac, I don't think you can use this process on a PC just yet.

Getting a copyrighted movie onto your iPod has been called illegal by some and not so illegal by others. My thought is that I bought the DVD and rather than wanting to watch it on my TV, I want to watch it on my iPod. Is it illegal to watch a DVD movie on my laptop? I do not reburn the movies to blank DVD's or share my movies with others. In my very humble opinion I am not infringing on anyone's copyright. That coming from an online cartoonist/artist that deals with copyright issues all of the time.
